When is the best time to take this Peru–Bolivia tour?
To decide on the best time to travel to Peru and Bolivia, you should also consider your preferences and what you want from your trip, since each season offers different advantages and some trade-offs. Below, we explain each season:
April to October: dry season (recommended)
During this period, known as the dry season, the climate in the Andean region is more stable, with less rainfall and better conditions for exploring cities like Cusco, visiting Machu Picchu, and sailing on Lake Titicaca. This allows you to enjoy your visits with greater comfort and visibility. During these months, passenger numbers increase, so it’s best to reserve your tickets—especially for the main destinations—several months in advance.

November to March: rainy season
From November to March it’s the rainy season, especially in the high Andean areas. Although the tour can still be done, it’s important to keep in mind that rainfall can affect some routes and excursions. On the other hand, the landscapes are greener and fewer tourists visit at this time, which can be appealing for travelers who prefer a quieter, more flexible experience. In addition, some service prices tend to be lower.
Who is this Peru and Bolivia tour recommended for?
This Peru and Bolivia tour is recommended for travelers who want to experience both countries in a complete, well-organized way, without worrying about logistics or coordination between destinations. It’s the ideal trip for those looking for a first experience in the Andean region, combining historic cities, iconic landscapes, and living culture in a single itinerary.
It’s also an excellent option for travelers who have enough time and prefer a balanced pace, with guided visits and free time to explore on their own. As it is a progressively planned itinerary, it’s suitable for couples, solo travelers, or small groups who value comfort and safety, as well as an experience without rushing or improvisation.

Full itinerary of the 15-day Peru–Bolivia tour
Day 1: Arrival in Lima
Upon your arrival in Lima, our team will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel located in the Miraflores district. This first day is designed for resting after your flight and starting to get familiar with the Peruvian capital, setting the pace for the experiences to come in the following days.
Day 2: Ballestas Islands and Huacachina Oasis
We leave the hotel at around 4:30 a.m. and head to Paracas, where we will enjoy an excursion to the Ballestas Islands and observe the local marine wildlife. After that, we travel on to Ica, where we’ll visit grape vineyards used to produce wine, which we’ll also have the chance to taste.
To end the day, we visit the Huacachina Oasis, where we’ll experience an adrenaline rush by riding dune buggies through the desert and sliding down the dunes on special boards (sandboarding).
Day 3: Lima city tour and flight to Cusco
We move from the desert to the city. On this day, we’ll walk through downtown Lima, visiting its main monuments, churches, and colonial-era catacombs, and we’ll sample some of Peru’s signature dishes—its cuisine is famous worldwide.
At the end of the tour, we get ready to board the flight that will take us to Cusco.
Day 4: Sacred Valley of the Incas
This day is dedicated to exploring the Sacred Valley, visiting traditional villages and archaeological sites that reflect the agricultural and cultural importance of this region during the Inca Empire. We begin in Chinchero to visit its textile centers and archaeological complex, then continue to the Maras salt mines and the Moray agricultural laboratory. We’ll have lunch in Urubamba before arriving at the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, which we will explore.
To wrap up the day, we board the train—departing from the town of Ollantaytambo—that will take us to the town of Aguas Calientes, bringing us closer to the highlight of the trip: Machu Picchu. We spend the night there.
Day 5: Machu Picchu
Early in the morning, we begin our journey to Machu Picchu. First, we board a bus that will drop us at the entrance to this Inca sanctuary. Depending on the circuit chosen, we’ll be able to tour the entire citadel with a guide who will explain the history and cultural significance of Machu Picchu. You’ll also have time to take photos at several points along the route, so have your best outfit ready for this day.
At the end of the visit, we return on the same bus that took us up to the entrance, or we can walk back down to the town. In the afternoon, we board the train that will take us back to Ollantaytambo, where our transport will be waiting to drive us to Cusco.
Day 6: Rainbow Mountain
The day starts very early; we leave the hotel at 4:30 a.m., and our transport takes us to Cusipata, where we’ll have breakfast. We then continue on to Pitumarca, near the base of the mountain, where the vehicle drops us off so we can start the ascent—on foot, horseback, motorbike, or ATV. If we choose to walk, the hike will take about 2 hours.
Rainbow Mountain is another place where you can take plenty of photos, either of the mountain itself or with llamas dressed in distinctive, colorful accessories. Remember you’ll be at more than 5,000 meters (16,400 ft) above sea level, so take it slowly.
The descent is faster; our transport will be waiting in the same spot where we were dropped off, and we’ll return to Cusipata, this time for lunch, before heading straight back to Cusco for a well-deserved rest.
Day 7: Cusco city tour
The seventh day is more relaxed. We’ll walk around the historic center of Cusco, its main square, the Cathedral, the Santo Domingo Temple, the Q`oricancha and more. We will also explore different Inca archaeological sites such as Tambomachay, Puca Pucara, Q`enqo and Sacsayhuamán.

Day 8: Humantay Lagoon
We leave the hotel at around 4:30 a.m., and our transport takes us to Mollepata, where we’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast. The vehicle then continues to Soraypampa, the starting point for the hike to the lagoon. On foot, it takes about an hour and a half to reach the top, but we also have the option of ascending on horseback. The highest point is breathtaking, ideal for photos, as you’ll see not only the turquoise lagoon but also the slopes of Mount Salkantay—a spectacular contrast of landscapes.
Day 9: Route of the Sun
We travel from Cusco to Puno on a tourist bus, making several stops along the way. The first is in Andahuaylillas to visit the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas,” famous for its blend of European and Andean religious art. We’ll have lunch in the same area. Then we visit Raqchi, home to the impressive Temple of Wiracocha. After all these stops, we arrive in Puno, where we’ll rest at the hotel.
Day 10: Lake Titicaca
After spending our first night in Puno, we head to Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, at nearly 4,000 meters (13,000 ft) above sea level. Here we visit several floating islands, including the Uros and Taquile islands, which give us the chance to learn more about the local culture. Optionally, we can ride on the traditional reed boats (balsas de totora), eye-catching and colorful vessels.
Day 11: Bolivia and journey to Uyuni
At 5:00 a.m., we leave Peru and travel to Bolivia, arriving in the capital, La Paz. We reach the city at around 1:00 p.m. and have the rest of the day to explore at our own pace or simply rest. At night, we continue our journey: the bus departs from the terminal at 9:00 p.m., and we arrive in Uyuni early in the morning, at approximately 5:00 a.m.
Day 12: Uyuni Salt Flats
Once in Uyuni, our transport takes us to the place where we’ll have breakfast. After recharging our energy, we start the tour by visiting the train cemetery and Colchani, and then enter the largest salt flat in the world. Here, we’ll have the chance to take creative, perspective-based photos, playing with the mirror-like reflections of the sky on the ground. We’ll also visit the old Salt Hotel (now a museum). We spend the night in Colchani or Uyuni.
Day 13: Uyuni Salt Flats – second day & return to La Paz
After a restful night, we start the day with breakfast and then visit Pulacayo, a historic site that played an important role in Bolivia’s past. We’ll also see the church of Tomave and the hot springs. In the afternoon, we visit two highland lagoons, where we can observe different bird species such as flamingos. To end the day’s tour, we return to Uyuni, have dinner, and board the bus that will take us back to La Paz (overnight journey).
Day 14: Arrival in La Paz
After the overnight journey back to Bolivia’s capital, La Paz, we’ll have the whole day to rest at the hotel or do activities on our own (shopping, short walks, taking photos, visiting restaurants or markets, among others).
Day 15: Departure from La Paz
On the last day, we coordinate your transfer to the airport according to your flight time. This brings to a close your 15-day journey through Peru and Bolivia, designed to offer a complete, well-organized experience without rush.
