Day 1 – Arrival in Cusco + acclimatization
Private transportation will pick you up from Cusco’s Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport and take you to your hotel, where you can unpack and rest. At the hotel you’ll be able to try the famous coca tea or muña tea, excellent herbal infusions to help prevent altitude sickness. You’ll have the rest of the day free to stroll calmly through the historic center, visit restaurants, or do some shopping.
Day 2 – Sacred Valley of the Incas
On day two, at around 6:00 or 6:30 a.m., we’ll pick you up from your hotel to head out to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We’ll first visit textile centers in Chinchero as well as its archaeological complex, then continue to Moray, the Inca agricultural laboratory, and Maras, where thousands of salt ponds create a truly impressive landscape. The archaeological complex of Pisac will amaze you, and before arriving at one of the last great Inca fortresses, Ollantaytambo, we’ll enjoy a buffet lunch.
From Ollantaytambo we head to the train station, where we’ll board the train that takes us to the town of Aguas Calientes, bringing us ever closer to the world wonder.
Day 3 – Machu Picchu
After spending the night in Aguas Calientes, we’ll start day three with a hearty breakfast, then head to the bus station that takes us to the entrance of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Inside, we’ll visit the main areas with a guide who will explain the history and cultural importance of this site throughout the tour. Don’t forget to take your best photos with the world wonder of Machu Picchu, so be sure to plan a special outfit for this day. In the afternoon, we head back to Cusco.
Day 4 – Rainbow Mountain
Another of the most anticipated days is day four, when we visit Rainbow Mountain. This time, departure from Cusco is very early, around 4:00 or 4:30 a.m. Transportation will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Cusipata, where we’ll have a semi-buffet breakfast, then continue the journey until we reach Pitumarca, the starting point of the hike.
There are several options to reach Rainbow Mountain: you can go on foot, by horse, on a motorbike, or by quad bike—it’s your choice. The hike to the highest viewpoint of the mountain takes about an hour and a half, and along the way you’ll be amazed by the number of llamas and alpacas grazing in the area. On this day, it’s best to wear warm clothing and, depending on the season, a waterproof jacket.
The descent is quicker than the climb. Our transportation will be waiting at the bottom to take us back to Cusipata, where we’ll enjoy a typical lunch before returning to Cusco.
Day 5 – Cusco and departure
On day five, depending on your flight time, you’ll have some free time for a final walk through Cusco’s historic center and to make your last purchases. Afterwards, transportation will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the airport, where you’ll board your domestic flight to Lima and your international flight back home, saying goodbye—for now—until your next adventure.
