Day 1: Arrival in Cusco and acclimatization
We arrive in Cusco and take you to your hotel so you can rest and begin the acclimatization process. To help prevent altitude sickness, we recommend drinking coca tea or muña tea, which you’ll usually find at your hotel. We use the rest of the day for a relaxed walk around the Plaza de Armas, a visit to local markets, or simply enjoying the city’s atmosphere while acclimating.
Day 2: Sacred Valley
We depart early for the Sacred Valley, with transportation waiting for us at your hotel. First, we visit a textile art center to learn about the natural dyeing process used for traditional garments, followed by the archaeological site of Chinchero. Then we head to the artisan market and agricultural terraces of Pisac and continue on to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo to explore its terraces and temples. We include time for lunch at a restaurant in the heart of Urubamba and to enjoy the Andean scenery. In the afternoon, we head to the train station to board the train to the town of Aguas Calientes, where the highlight of the trip awaits: Machu Picchu.
Day 3: Machu Picchu – Cusco
We wake up early to visit one of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World: Machu Picchu. After breakfast, we board a bus that takes us to the entrance of the citadel. It’s important to carry your identification documents and entry tickets. Once inside, we enjoy a guided tour of the citadel, exploring temples, plazas, and viewpoints, with time to stop and take photos at the most scenic spots. In the afternoon, we return by train and private transportation to Cusco, where we spend the night.
Day 4: Cusco – Lima
Depending on your flight time to Lima, you’ll have free time for a final walk through Cusco’s historic center to shop for souvenirs, eat, take photos, or simply relax until transportation picks you up and takes you to Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport.
