Recommended 8-day Peru trip itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Lima
We’ll meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. This first day is to relax, ideal for resting after your flight or going out for a walk nearby. The hotel is in Miraflores or Barranco, a strategic area so you can visit iconic spots without having to go far.
Day 2 – Huacachina Oasis
We leave early for Paracas and the Ica desert. First we visit the Ballestas Islands, where we’ll have the chance to see local marine wildlife (Humboldt penguins, sea lions, seabirds, gulls, and more). Then we continue to the Huacachina Oasis, where we ride buggies over the dunes and, if you’d like, try sandboarding. In the late afternoon we return to Lima.
Day 3 – Lima city tour and flight to Cusco
In the morning we tour Lima’s historic center, its main squares, museums, landmarks, and some modern neighborhoods. You’ll also get to taste some of Peru’s most representative dishes. After lunch, we transfer you to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, we take you to your hotel and you’ll have the rest of the day to rest or stroll through Cusco’s historic center at your own pace. This is how we begin the acclimatization process.
Day 4 – Sacred Valley of the Incas
Today we head out to the Sacred Valley. We start with a visit to Chinchero, where we’ll see its textile centers, natural dyeing process, and the local archaeological site. We also explore the archaeological site in Pisac, its artisan market, and the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. At the end of the day we board the train that takes us to the town of Aguas Calientes, a key stop before visiting Machu Picchu and where we spend the night.
Day 5 – Machu Picchu
Very early, after a good rest and breakfast, we take the bus that brings us to the entrance of the Inca sanctuary of Machu Picchu. We walk through the citadel with a guide, visit its main sectors, and have time to take plenty of photos and enjoy rest stops. In the afternoon we take the train back to Ollantaytambo and continue by bus to our hotel in Cusco.
Day 6 – Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca)
On this day we’ll leave at dawn, around 4 a.m. The transportation will be waiting for us outside the hotel. We’ll have breakfast in Cusipata and then continue by vehicle until we reach Pitumarca, at the base of the mountain where we begin the ascent on foot, by motorbike, on horseback, or by quad bike. The weather depends heavily on the season, but because of the altitude we’ll reach (over 5,000 meters / 16,400 feet), we recommend bringing waterproof and warm clothing. We’ll return to Cusco in the afternoon after having lunch in Cusipata.

Day 7 – Humantay Lagoon
Today we start with hotel pick-up at around 4:30 a.m., heading to Mollepata (breakfast) and Soraypampa to begin the hike to Humantay Lagoon. Here we also have options for the ascent: we can hike, which takes around 2 to 3 hours, or go by horse, which drops us very close to the lagoon— from there we walk about 10 to 15 minutes to reach the viewpoint. It’s important to bring warm clothing; although we don’t reach the same altitude as Rainbow Mountain, we’ll be very close to the Salkantay glacier. The contrast of the turquoise lagoon and the snow-capped peak creates a stunning panorama, perfect for photos.
In the afternoon we return to Cusco, stopping again in Mollepata for lunch.
Day 8 – Departure from Peru
At the scheduled time we transfer you to the airport for your outbound flight, but if you have half a day free before your departure, you can wander around Cusco’s historic center to make your last purchases, take photos, or enjoy a final meal before leaving.
This is how we close the trip after a full and intense week exploring the coast and the Andes.

Best time for an 8-day trip to Peru
This tour can be done year-round, but the weather varies between the coast and the highlands, especially in Cusco and the hiking areas. Choosing the right time of year will help you enjoy the excursions and views even more.
From April to October we have the dry season in the Andes. This is the most recommended time to visit Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, and Humantay Lagoon, with less rain and better hiking conditions. Nights are cold in Cusco, so it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket. It’s high season, so it’s important to book in advance.
From November to March it’s the rainy season, especially in January and February. The landscapes are greener and there are fewer tourists, but some hikes can be affected by the weather. If you travel during these months, it’s best to bring waterproof clothing and proper footwear.
